Michiana Raceway Park has long offered a unique experience to young families by introducing them to racing. After a very busy month of April that saw nearly 1,000 kart racers from all over the country invade the Michiana region on three consecutive weekends, Michiana Raceway Park has now returned their focus on doing what they do best, exposing the region to a variety of programs geared to filling someone’s need for speed.
Beginning this week, Michiana Raceway Park will begin their Springtime racing leagues that include both oval and sprint track racing on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
“League racing was introduced only two years ago,” said track owner, Garry Lobaugh. “It gives racing enthusiasts an opportunity to get behind the wheel themselves in a fun and safe capacity. Nearly anyone, male or female, young or chronologically challenged, can participate.”
In addition to league racing, Michiana Raceway Park offers team building, corporate entertainment and group outing opportunities utilizing the racetrack and their fleet of racing karts.
“We see a huge interest from people once they see what we have to offer,” continued Lobaugh. “It is physically and mentally challenging and a great alternative to a typical entertainment venue. Why watch when you can do?”
One of the popular aspects to the karting facility is their attention to promoting a family atmosphere.
“Being here at the track allows us as a family to combine our passion for racing with our kids. We work together as a team the whole weekend,” says Kevin Wagner of Williamsburg, VA. The Wagners travel to several tracks throughout the country in a year’s time.
For some local racers, it is an opportunity to direct their children’s energy on something positive that can be shared with their family.
“We put our daughter, Hanna, into karting and it has helped her focus at school and at home,” said Rick Zellers of Granger, IN. “It has built her self-esteem, keeps her out of trouble and the entire family has built great friendships.”
“This is definitely a team effort because it takes all of us to encourage our son to do his best out there,” said Margie Burke, whose son, Tommy, competes in MRP’s weekly championship.
Looking for something more serious? Michiana Raceway Park is known across the country for their MRP Speed Schools with courses tailored to the very beginner, no matter what age, all the way to advanced training for pro-level kart racers.
